Who am I? That’s a very good question. It’s a tall order to explain the essence of me in an “about” page on a blog so I’ll keep it brief by providing a few snippets which you can string together and form some kind of semi-coherent picture...
What I do
I’m a journalist who is 30 and not all that happy about it. Being 30, that is, journalism is fine! My background is in regional newspapers, latterly as an editor, and for the past three years I have worked in communications/online media, writing and editing a university website. In my spare time I play netball and (formerly) volleyball, blog (obviously) and am currently editing my first novel. While I loathe reading chick lit, much preferring a gritty crime novel, it seems I can only write about “girl stuff”. And it’s bloomin’ hard work! My novel delves into the dark world of dating and is a compilation of my own experiences, the ones I have avoided blogging about. Most were so horrific they needed to be written down somewhere!
What I like
I believe that steak (ideally fillet) should only be eaten rare and that those who order it well done should be ejected from their seats immediately. I’m not sure I would be able to leave the house if the world’s supply of mascara ever dried up, the natural look is not for me, and if I were to live anywhere in the world it would be New York. For my sins, I am a fan of dance music. Funky house and stuff from the 90s floats my boat, and I love my friends. I have a group for writer buddies who keep me motivated and remind me that there’s nowt easy about writing a book. Good to have reassurance! If I could choose any job in the world I’d be an FBI agent. I’m also a massive fan of Apple, and I ain’t talking fruit.
What I don't like
I have old fashioned manners and think rude people are second class. I have never smoked a cigarette and therefore smokers make me angry. It’s expensive, cancerous, smelly and anti-social; I just don’t see the point.
More about me
I am engaged to be married and ridiculously excited about it, although trying very hard not to become a single-minded bridezilla. The fact I’ve met a man who is completely amazing - and he wants to put a ring on my finger - is enough to make me happy forever. We have a cocker spaniel puppy called Ralphie who is adorable (when he’s not biting or eating slugs) and hope one day to live by the seaside. I’m a fatty living in a size 12 body. I love food and have no intention of giving it up, even if my waistline doesn’t like it. I am ridiculously organised, thrive on making lists and pride myself on my punctuality and need to be efficient. I think people who don’t have ambitions lack brain cells, and this doesn’t relate to just careers, it could be anything. Be ambitious in life peoples, it’s what makes life worth living. I have two tattoos, an Arabic symbol on my wrist which means “to shine” and some kind of Celtic squiggle thing on my back which means bugger all.
